Dr. Donald Shenenberger is a board-certified dermatologist at Peninsula Dermatology Skin Cancer Surgery Center, where he practices general medical and surgical dermatology, as well as academic dermatology. His commitment to excellence in patient care and education makes him a distinguished figure in the Hampton Roads community. Dr. Shenenberger serves as an assistant professor of Dermatology at Eastern Virginia Medical School and has formerly been on the faculty of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. His dual roles as a clinician and educator allow him to treat patients while imparting his extensive knowledge to the next generation of doctors.

Service to the Nation and Community
Dr. Shenenberger retired from the Navy after nearly 26 years of distinguished service. His diverse military career includes roles as an Electronics Technician on the USS James Madison SSBN 627, a Family Medicine Physician in Haiti, and the Senior Medical Officer on the USS Mount Whitney LCC/JCC-20 to the Horn of Africa. He concluded his military career as the Chief Medical Informatics Officer at Navy Medicine East and as a staff dermatologist at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. His service has not only enriched his clinical expertise but also deepened his commitment to patient care and medical education.
Contributions to Medical Literature
In addition to his latest book, Dr. Shenenberger has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles. His publications include reviews on cutaneous malignant melanoma in American Family Physician and articles on the removal of unwanted hair. His contributions to medical literature reflect his extensive knowledge and ongoing commitment to advancing the field of dermatology.
A Personal Touch
Dr. Shenenberger resides in Chesapeake with his wife and two children. As he and his wife approach the “empty nest” phase, he cherishes spending time with his family. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys cycling for exercise and playing music in his home studio whenever he gets the chance. His personal interests and dedication to his family add a warm and relatable dimension to his impressive professional achievements.
