What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic procedure that involves using a device called a derma roller or a derma pen. Using the derma roller or derma pen, your dermatologist creates tiny, controlled punctures in the skin. These punctures stimulate the skin’s natural healing process and can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks and other skin imperfections.

How Does Morpheus8 Work?

Morpheus8 is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that uses radiofrequency (RF) technology to target and rejuvenate deep layers of the skin. The treatment is performed with a device that delivers RF energy through microneedling to the subdermal tissue, leading to increased collagen production, skin tightening and improvement of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. By treating the subdermal layers of the skin, this device can both tighten and contour the skin.

Stimulates collagen production

Collagen is a naturally-occurring protein that gives the skin structure and elasticity. As we age, collagen production naturally decreases, which leads to skin that is less firm. By utilizing radiofrequency (RF) and microneedling techniques, the skin’s collagen production is increased, giving the skin a more youthful appearance. The deeper settings target subdermal layers of the skin, which naturally contour the face.

What To Expect During Morpheus8 Treatment

While each patient is different, there are a few steps you can expect during treatment:

Consultation: The first step to treatment is to have a consultation with Dr. Tacastacas at Peninsula Dermatology. We will evaluate your skin and discuss your desired results to determine if this is the right treatment for you.
Cleaning: Prior to your RF and microneedling session, your skin will be cleaned to remove any oils or makeup.
Numbing cream: A numbing cream may be applied to the treatment area to reduce any discomfort during the procedure.

Treatment: Your provider will use the device to deliver RF energy to the subdermal tissue, targeting the deeper layers of the skin. The treatment typically takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
Aftercare: Your provider will provide instructions for aftercare, which may include avoiding sun exposure, using moisturizer and avoiding makeup for a certain period of time. You may experience some redness and irritation, but no serious pain or discomfort.
Follow-up appointment: Your provider will schedule a follow-up appointment to assess your results and discuss any additional treatments that may be recommended.
